My name is Jen and I am a dedicated animal lover. I have owned both cats and dogs for most of my life. I have always wanted to work with animals and I have started this business to follow my dream.
So why now? Well, in 2005, we acquired a rescue border collie named Willow. She came into our home with a multitude of behavioural problems including a fear of men, cars, other dogs, anything that made noise, and a host of other things. It was a little embarrassing walking her down the street as she tried to snap at people’s ankles as they passed by or she turned into a great imitation of a Tasmanian devil if another dog dared to come anywhere near her! It was a bit intimidating at first as the dogs I had owned previously, I had acquired as puppies so they didn’t come with all this emotional baggage as Willow did.
Slowly, I managed to gain Willow’s trust and we have worked hard to mould her into an acceptable member of the canine society. Today, although not perfect, she has managed to overcome most of her fears and she is an absolute joy to have around (although still has a bit of Tasmanian devil in her). It has been incredibly gratifying watching and helping her grow from a timid, fearful creature to the beautiful and happy dog she is today.
Working with Willow sparked my interest in becoming more involved with animals and I decided that I wanted to follow a career path doing something I love. I made the big decision to make a career change and become a professional dog walker and pet sitter. To prepare me for this move, I decided to start some courses offered at the Animal Care College. I have successfully completed a course called Introduction to Canine Psychology where I learned quite a bit about how dogs think and why they act the way they do.
I have just completed a course called the Pet Sitting Certificate along with an associated course called Health, Safety, Legal and Associated Issues. My intention is to continue my studies on canine psychology and I also plan to work on gaining a diploma on Canine Massage Therapy. I would also love to work on feline psychology one of these days but that will have to be a bit in the future as there are just not enough hours in the day to get everything I want to do, done! In the meantime, my intention is to work hard with this business and I am looking forward to meeting lots of different animals and having the privilege of caring for them. |
